We chose this magnificent view of majestic Mount Katahdin, the last mountain of the Appalachian Trail as the lead photo for our Northwoods collection because it epitomizes all that is great about Maine. Strong and rugged, it stands independent and proud.
Imagine a late summer's morning, waking up in the 60 degree cool, a slight whiff of campfire smoke on the fresh air. You take a deep breath and smell the Maine woods- ferns, oaks, maples, birch, spruce and pine. You're ready for the day's activities, whether it is rock climbing in Acadia, or a walk through the woods to Gulf Hagas, or kayaking on a lake or on the ocean. What better way to finish the day than with a dish of Pugnuts Ice Cream at our shop in Surry - we hope you enjoy our Northwoods flavors! |
Oak with Whiskey SaucePictured against our favorite oak tree in Autumn at Contention Cove in Surry, Maine, our Oak with Whiskey Sauce is made by steeping culinary grade toasted oak chips in milk overnight before we make it into Gelato.
The result is a unique "oaky" flavor with just a hint of woodsmoke at the finish to remind you of those relaxed evenings in Maine by your campfire. |
Birch Bark
The horizontal black lines that give the Maine White Birch its distinctive look are called "Lenticels". They were the inspiration for adding Italian Chocolate Stratiachella to our Birch Bark Gelato.
Made with the same Birch Syrup that your grandfather may have made his Birch Beer, "Birch Bark" has a similar flavor to root beer, with the addition of subtle hints of mint, and some have said it is like eating a root beer float on a cone! |
Maple WalnutNew England brings many pleasures, including the annual fall foliage, with its spectacular reds, golds and browns set against the dark green Maine spruces and pine trees.
Pugnut's Maple Walnut is made with real maple sugar and walnuts, ground into a fine paste and added to our creamy ice cream to make a rich, delicious treat! |
